Revelation

What if I wake up one morning
weary-boned and quiet
to discover that after a lifetime of searching
I have been here all along--
lingering in the shadows of half-told truths,
peering out from behind the words of a poem,
dissolving like sugar on the tip of a lover's tongue,
my true breadth and depth
not visible to the naked eye
patiently waiting, waiting, waiting
beneath rolling blue waves
to be remembered--
like a mountain rising thirty-three thousand feet
from the ocean's floor,
like God
