Earth Songs: Spring
The early spring sun warms the top layer
of soil in the terra cotta pot
left out all winter.
Just under the surface the soil is cool

last week’s regrets.
Plucked from the safety of my window
the seedling loosens
then slides effortlessly into the pot.
Her delicate roots settle then seek
downward, reaching blindly
